The game begins with a man standing on a desolate Hebridean shore. As he takes his first step forward, he starts to speak: “Dear Esther...” and so unfolds a dreamlike and complex tale of love, loss, and redemption. Players are invited to explore the windswept island, delving into an eerie and otherworldly story where reality fractures and unravels.
Widely recognized as a catalyst for the walking simulator subgenre, Dear Esther features dynamic narration that ensures each return to the island brings something new to the story. Since its original release, Dear Esther has sold over one million units and is regarded as a benchmark in interactive and emotionally-driven storytelling.
