The Chinese Room’s cult classic, Dear Esther, has arrived on iOS for the first time, offering a faithful interpretation of this internationally renowned game.
The game begins with a man standing on a desolate Hebridean shore. As he takes his first step forward, he starts to speak: “Dear Esther...” and so unfolds a dreamlike and complex tale of love, loss, and redemption. Players are invited to explore the windswept island, delving into an eerie and otherworldly story where reality fractures and unravels.
Widely recognized as a catalyst for the walking simulator subgenre, Dear Esther features dynamic narration that ensures each return to the island brings something new to the story. Since its original release, Dear Esther has sold over one million units and is regarded as a benchmark in interactive and emotionally-driven storytelling. PC Gamer described it as a game that “provokes thought and feeling in a way few others do.” It has also garnered praise for its magnificent visuals, as The Daily Telegraph noted that “Dear Esther's visuals are majestic,” while Jessica Curry’s acclaimed soundtrack has received awards and nominations from BAFTA and other prestigious organizations.
Dear Esther includes subtitles in French, German, Spanish, and Russian.
